〜だ

Formationnoun + だ

だ is です without the politeness, used with friends and in writing addressed to nobody in particular. In speech it often disappears altogether and the bare noun carries the sentence. In writing it is the standard way a statement ends.

   That child is impossible.

   He is something of a magician.
