N5 grammar

一番〜

The most, the best

Formation

一番 in front of an adjective makes it a superlative: the cheapest, the most famous. It literally means number one and sits before the word it lifts. For comparisons among three or more things, this is the pattern.

Examples

一番〜 is marked in each sentence. Tap any word for its dictionary entry.

  1. The Nile is the longest river in the world.

  2. Which drama series do you like best?

  3. The best approach to Lisbon is by sea.

  4. Where's the nearest drugstore?

  5. Clarity comes first.
