N4 grammar

〜そうだ(伝聞)

souda

Reporting what you heard

Formation

This そうだ passes on information you got from somewhere else, and it takes no responsibility for it. It attaches to a complete plain form, which is the only thing separating it from the そう that guesses from appearances. It cannot be made negative or past itself: the clause in front carries all of that.
