〜て

Formationverb て-form (+ next verb)

The て form links verbs into a sequence: do this, then that, all under one final tense. Only the last verb in the chain carries the tense and the politeness. It is the workhorse form, and nearly every pattern that follows hangs off it.

   Would you put on the air conditioning?

2. 今日きょうは、じめじめして寒さむいですね。

   It is damp and cold today, isn't it?

3. 近ちかくの物ものがかすんで見みえます。

   Close things look blurred.

4. 足あしがもつれて転ころびそうになった。

   I tripped and nearly fell.

5. 食堂しょくどうはもう開ひらいてますか。

   Is the dining room open now?
