N5 grammar
〜ています
teimasu
In progress, or an ongoing state
Formationverb て-form + います
ています covers an action happening right now and a state that has settled in. Raining and living in Tokyo both use it, which is why it can feel like two patterns wearing one coat. With verbs of change, the sense is that the change already happened and still holds.
