N4 grammar

〜れる/〜られる

When it happens to you

Formation

The passive turns the person on the receiving end into the subject of the sentence. The one doing it, if mentioned at all, takes に. Japanese also uses the passive where English would not, to say that something was done to you and you did not enjoy it.
