N4 grammar

〜られる/〜える

Saying you can do it

Formation

The potential form says you are able to do something, without any extra verb. Godan verbs shift their last sound to the え row and add る, so 話す becomes 話せる and 泳ぐ becomes 泳げる. What was the object usually takes が rather than を once the verb goes potential.
