〜けど

Formationclause + けど / けれど

けど is the everyday version of が and it turns up constantly in speech. Left trailing at the end of a sentence it leaves the rest unsaid, which is a very Japanese way to decline something. けれども is the same word dressed up.

1. 悪わるいけど、長居ながいできないんだ。

   Sorry, but I can't stay long.

2. 申し訳もうしわけないけど、できません。

   I'm sorry, but it's impossible.

3. まだ頭あたまはがんがんするけど熱ねつはもうないよ。

   My head's still pounding but I don't have a temperature any more.

4. 急せかしたくはないけど、次つぎのバスに乗のろう。

   I don't want to rush you, but let's try to catch the next bus.

5. 彼かれは未婚みこんだけど子供こどもがいた。

   He had a child even though he wasn't married.
